Journey to an Alien MoonBeyond our solar system astrobiologists look for evidence of life: an atmosphere, water, or chemical elements that might constitute the building blocks for living organisms. Jupiter’s frozen moon, Europa, may be one such world. But Europa is too far away for a trial-and-error approach. The physical environments here on our own planet Earth—ice, water, fire, darkness—will be the crucibles that give scientists needed tools to create the machines to study distant worlds. The life they find in these terrestrial environments will help them understand how life might also be able to thrive in the extreme conditions that exist in places like Europa. We will visualize the journey to Europa in an animated sequence that will take us deep below the ice and bring us face-to-face with a world that science could reasonably imagine. Strange, perhaps wonderful, but not far-fetched. A National Geographic Production. (52 minutes)
