​SFSC Circulation Policy

• SFSC students, including dual-enrolled students, and all full-time and part-time staff can check out 20 items for 30 days at a time.
• Faculty and adjunct faculty are allowed to check out 50 items for the term.
• Highlands Career Institute students, community borrowers (including Heartland Library Cooperative cardholders), and high school students NOT enrolled at the college can check out up to five books for 14 days at a time.
• Students attending one of Florida’s public universities have borrowing privileges and can check out up to 20 items for 30 days.
• Distance learners, local educators, lifetime learners, and students enrolled at a private college or university can check out up to five books for 14 days at a time.
• Except for faculty, borrowers are allowed to check out a maximum of two audiovisual items such as DVDs and audiobooks for 7 days. All faculty have 14-day loan periods for audiovisual materials.

Item renewals

Materials can be renewed twice except for some Reserve items that have special loan restrictions.

Fines & Fees

• Overdue books accrue a late fine of $0.25 a day per book.
• Overdue audiovisual materials accrue a late fine of $1.00 a day per item.  
• Overdue reserve items accrue a late fine of $1.00 a day or hour per item.
• A replacement fee will be assessed for lost or damaged materials.

SFSC Cards & Cooperative Borrowing Privileges

• For SFSC students, faculty, and staff, the college ID issued in Bldg. B Welcome Center serves as your library card for each semester you are taking classes or employed at SFSC.
• Students in dual-enrollment and SFSC Highlands Career Institute can bring a photo ID (high school IDs are accepted for dual-enrolled and Career Academy students) to the Highlands Campus library circulation desk or the front office in DeSoto, Hardee, and Lake Placid Center to use library computers or check out library materials.
• Distance learners and students attending college or university at public and private institutions around the country have borrowing privileges at SFSC. Students need to present their valid university ID and a photo ID at the circulation desk to SFSC library services.
• Local educators, lifetime learners, and community members who wish to use SFSC library services have two options:

1. Purchase a library card for $5 at the Cashiers Office in Bldg. B, or
2. Bring a Heartland Library Cooperative card issued by one of the local libraries along with a photo ID  to the Highlands Campus library circulation desk or the front office in DeSoto, Hardee, and Lake Placid Center to use the library computers or check out library materials. Computer use for community and HLC cardholders is only available at the Highlands Campus.

• Junior and senior high school students 16 years of age or older with a valid Heartland or SFSC library card need to have a parent or guardian fill out and sign a Patron Registration form to use SFSC library services.
• Minors under the age of 16 must have appropriate supervision (parent, guardian, or instructor) to use College library resources. No one under the age of 16 may checkout materials from SFSC.
